Things with Wings

Been busy with my work - planning fundraising for our charity partner Together for Short Lives 'Love your local hospice' week and then straight into Marie Curie The Great Daffodil Appeal, and tomorrow it will be putting items together for random acts of kindness for Mothers Day and also a hamper for FB giveaway for a local mum. I love my job!!

Needed to craft today as first the Yahoo app wouldn't work (ended up deinstalling it and then reinstalling it) AND then the laptop wouldn't let me on as apparently it had had one to many wrong password attempts and unexpected restarts - it hadn't - and I had to wait 2 hours before trying again. Arrrgghh!!!
(Am back on now and made sure I am fully backed up, just in case!)

Now these were supposed to for the Gecko Galz miniature embellishment challenge over on FB, but as it turns out were neither miniature or featured floral. So Things with Wings it is!
Loved doing them, the randomness of the embellishments was very therapeutic.

Anything your heart desires

 Gecko Galz (Facebook) challenge - anything goes project - just had to use a heart somewhere on it. I wanted to make my oldest friend a Birthday card so used this as my inspiration - though I ended up forgetting where I put the card, so had to send her a shop bought one!! And yes I found it afterwards, but at least I now have a spare - and the Galz choose my card has the winner of that theme, so I now have a new digital sheet to play with.

Paper sheet number 2 turned black, cropped, edges roughened
image number 3, cropped, flipped to look right, copied and turned black.
Heart from copy of image cut out and placed over original image.

Merry Mermaids

A new month means a new Customer Challenge at the Gecko Galz and the theme for the month of AUGUST is 'Merry Mermaid'. So why not play along - join the challenge with the chance to win $25 at the Gecko Galz shop!

I used the Mermaid Dreams Junk Journal Kit for my digital page, with vintage pictures and embellishments, this kit is really versatile.
The backing ground is actually the two matching triangle corners merged together and the main pihcture placed on top, I just played around with the transparency on both items till I liked the result. I turned the mermaids into Sirens.

"In Greek mythology, The Sirens lived on a rocky island in the middle of the sea, possibly near Italy. They sang melodies so beautiful that sailors passing by couldn't resist getting closer to them. Following the sound of music, the sailors would steer their boats towards them or jump in the water to get closer. Either way, it always ended in disaster on the rocks."

 I hope you'll join in the 'Merry Mermaid' Challenge, where the Winner gets a $25 shopping spree to spend at the Gecko Galz shop. (The only rule is that you must use at least one Gecko Galz product... this can be one of the freebies, or, of course, you can buy at the Etsy shop).

A quick and simple 6x6 card using an image from 'Haunted Ephemera', a pair of googly eyes and orange glitter card.

I took the image into Craft Artist and then added the sentiment, had fun choosing the right 'spooky' type font. Then put it all together and printed it out. Matt and layered into a piece of orange glitter card and stuck it onto my 6x6 card blank.

The Witching Hour at Gecko Galz

A new month means a new Customer Challenge at the Gecko Galz and the theme for the month of October is 'The Witching Hour'
So why not play along - join the challenge with the chance to win $25 at the Gecko Galz shop!

October means three things  - Christmas is fast approaching but first the ghosts and ghoulies are training hard to give us all a good scare on All Hallows Eve! And its going to be time for the Gecko Galz Blog Hop - where you will get to see lots of beautiful samples from all our Designers and get the chance to enter into the Blog Hop competition to win prizes and grab some freebies!! Whats not to love about October!!

My first sample is a double journal spread, using  paper from 'Frightfully Delightful' and the lady from 'Haunted Ephemera'. The quote came from a web search, metal corners/brooch cameo/spider charm from The Craft Box and I used a small cobweb die and black sparkle embossing powder.

The backing paper was sized to fit the page and then I digitally flipped it so it was a mirror image on the other page. Added the words in bold and white.

My second sample is the 3 atcs which go in the pocket, all done using images from 'Frightfully Delightful'.

When I printed the first journal backing paper the writing was a little too big so I did altered it and reprinted, not wanting too waste anything I used the unwanted first print as backing paper for the atcs. I choose my 3 images I wanted to use then sized them just under 2.5 by 3.5 so they would have a border when cut up. Printed out, cut up, stuck on and embellished.

I hope you'll join in with our 'Witching Hour' Challenge, where the Winner gets a $25 shopping spree to spend at the Gecko Galz shop. (The only rule is that you must use at least one Gecko Galz product... this can be one of the freebies, or, of course, you can buy at the Etsy shop).

Courtly Love Customer Challenge

Happy New Year!!

A new month means a new Customer Challenge at the Gecko Galz and the theme for the month of January is 'Courtly Love'.

So why not play along, join the challenge with the chance to win $25 at the Gecko Galz Shop

~~~
It was lovely to do a card which wasn't a Christmas card, I think that's why I went a bit crazy with the pearls, add my undying affection for Mr Darcy and it all went a bit.......
image from 'Vintage Flirtations' design sheet
paper from 'Courtly Love' Paper pack
burgundy paperstock
pearls, lots & lots of
Spellbinder frame die
quote from Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice Mr Darcy, superbly acted by Colin Firth
Using an A4 sheet of white card I measured about 29cm along the long side and about 16cm on the short side and cut the card accordingly.
I then measured 10cm along the long edge and scored down the card to make the front of the card.
(this size card will just about fit into a C5 envelope, might have to do a little snipping to fit properly)
I resized my image using Craft Artist to use as the topper for the front of my card, also did the same with my chosen backing paper  (using the measurements of the long edge with the 10cm taken off) and printed both off.
To make the quote topper I used the same backing paper but cropped it so it was just the plain pink area, typed my chosen quote (sheesh, it took me ages to find the one I wanted to use!) and then printed it out. With hindsight, I should have made the font a teeny bigger.
I backed my topper with a panel of burgundy card and then stuck it onto my card, I stuck the backing paper straight on to the card.
Using the SpellBinder die I centred the quote in the middle and then die cut it out, then die cut a piece of burgundy card stock to go underneath it.
Lastly I added the pearls, and more pearls.
All I can say is........ 'Oh, Mr Darcy!'
disclaimer - Neither Mr Darcy, nor Colin Firth were harmed in the making of this card 😍
I hope you'll join in with our 'Courtly Challenge' where the Winner gets a $25 shopping spree to spend at the Gecko Galz Shop. (The only rule is that you must use at least one Gecko Galz product... this can be one of the freebies or, of course, you can buy at the Etsy shop)
